Rachel Busko is the new palliative care and hospice physician fellow for the 2022-2023 year.
She completed her residency in Family Medicine in Grand Forks, North Dakota. She attended medical school at the University of Minnesota. Originally from Minnesota, she is no stranger to the cold winters and snow. In fact, her favorite mode of transportation in the winter is by snowshoe! In her spare time, Rachel enjoys any type of musical performance (performing or listening), gardening, outdoor activities, cooking and hiking.
She was drawn to palliative medicine and hospice care due to the close relationships that are developed between patients and their providers. Through palliative medicine, she has seen the importance of compassion, walking with patients on their journeys. Compassion is a skill, requiring diligent practice and determination, that providers and patients cannot afford to be without. Compassion and genuine care serve as reminders that the most difficult journeys are made less so when not undertaken alone.
Her medical interests also include wilderness medicine, point-of-care ultrasound, LGBTQ care and addiction medicine.
She is excited for all the learning and adventure that is sure to come when she arrives in Alaska!
