Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN), Nurse Practitioner

2020 Palliative Care Department Advanced Certified Hospice & Palliative Nurse Practitioners (ACHPNs)

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs), Nurse Practitioners, are recognized as an integral part of the healthcare team. This is an exclusive opportunity for nurse practitioners. There are only 7 APRN palliative care fellowships across the nation; less than five of those fellowships have a defined commitment to interprofessional fellowship learning. Nurse practitioners have a history of building their specialty skills through on-the-job training versus specialized education, training, and knowledge development. Providence St. Joseph remains committed to providing the best care possible by all providers for every patient. Providence Alaska Medical Center (PAMC) recognizes that the best care possible for every patient requires embracing healthcare complexity, strengthening every member of the interprofessional health care team, and a commitment to on-going training, development and enhancement of all healthcare team members. Ultimately, PAMC understands that universities alone cannot shoulder the educational needs to improve the patient experience, provide valued based healthcare, and improve population; it requires partnerships with organizations, like ours, to achieve this.

Our team has an exceptional APRN staff who have all demonstrated commitment to our profession through attainment of the Advanced Certification for Hospice and Palliative Nursing (ACHPN) through the Hospice and Palliative Credentialing Center (HPCC). Our team makes up 6 of the 7 APRNs with this advanced certification within the state of AK. Our team is committed to primary and specialty palliative care by leading End-of-Life-Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) curriculum, development of the first Alaska Hospice and Palliative Nurse Association (HPNA) chapter, participation in multiple committees and activities within our national HPNA organization, and supporting outside educational events throughout the state.

Thank you for your interest in Palliative Care. Our team invites all inquiries.

Application process begins every year around December-January with anticipated start of fellowship in July
