Anchorage is Alaska’s most vibrant cultural and commercial center. At the air crossroads between the Lower-48 states and the bustling economies of the Asian Pacific Rim, Anchorage is a strategic social and commercial epicenter. Anchorage’s unique geo-political characteristics has helped it to grow into a modern city that boasts sophistication, while maintaining a charming small-city atmosphere. With a population of 290,000, Anchorage is home to nearly half the state’s population.

Living in Anchorage

Despite its relative small size, Anchorage features over 100 miles of bike and lighted ski trails within the city limits. Outdoor activities are literally only minutes away. World-class outdoor recreational opportunities include cross-country and downhill skiing, hiking, biking, fresh and salt-water fishing, kayaking, boating, wind surfing, climbing, hunting, and dog-mushing. Anchorage also leads the state in entertainment opportunities including dining, theater, nightclubs, opera, symphony, and art. Anchorage’s central location places it within relative close proximity to most of the state’s major tourism attractions. Numerous national parks and wildlife preserves are all within close driving and flying distance, making Anchorage an ideal take-off point for wilderness excursions.
