Chief of Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine
Ryan McGhan MD, MSPH was born at PAMC, and now serves as the subsection chief for pulmonary and critical care medicine. He attended medical school at the University of Washington School of Medicine through the WWAMI program, graduating in 1999. He did his residency in internal medicine at UCSF, and a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at the University of Colorado. His relationship with the palliative care program at PAMC began when he helped form the intensivist program in 2007, and has been involved in training palliative care fellows since that time.
His professional interests include developing systems of care delivery to optimize quality. Palliative care providers have been instrumental in helping our critically ill patients: supporting patients and their families, helping elucidate goals of care, and refocusing our efforts on interventions that matter to patients. The critical care and palliative care services also have the opportunity to collaborate on solving difficult clinical and ethical challenges in the intensive care unit.
His personal interests include skiing, biking, hunting, and fishing, especially with his family.
