Lead Faculty, Providence Alaska Palliative Care Clinic
Dr. Linda Smith has had a wide variety of health care experiences before settling into Palliative Care Medicine. She has worked as a Paramedic, a researcher, a post graduate medical educator, and an Emergency Medicine physician before completing her Fellowship and Board certification in Palliative and Hospice care medicine. The Alaska leg of her journey began in 2000 at the Alaska Native Medical Center where she had the opportunity to experience the Alaska Native culture through medical service in the ER and through administrative work with the medical staff and hospital board.
She transitioned to Providence Alaska Medical Center in 2008 and completed the Fellowship in Palliative and Hospice care medicine in 2012. During her Palliative Medicine career she has opened new pathways into NICU Palliative care and Pediatric hospice care. In March of 2014 she opened the first outpatient Palliative care program in Alaska and in 2015 she has begun video teleconferencing services as a part of her outpatient services.
Her passions outside of work include fishing and hiking with friends and family in addition to her training as a triathlete. She thoroughly enjoys the out of doors and can be found somewhere on the Kenai with family and dogs Razzy and Kona during much of her time off.
